Sam's Passover Preview

Passover is a Jewish festival commemorating the Exodus from Egypt and the liberation of the Israelites from slavery. It is immediately followed by the Festival of the Unleavened Bread.Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan, the first month of the Hebrew calendar, in accordance with the Hebrew Bible. The Exodus of the Jews from Egypt took place in the spring and so Passover must be celebrated in the spring. In Israel, Passover is a seven-day holiday, with the first and last days celebrated as a full festival involving abstention from work, special prayer services, and holiday meals. Many Jews observe the positive Torah commandment of eating matzo on the first night of Passover at the Passover Seder, as well as the Torah prohibition against eating or owning Chametz (leavened products such as bread, cake, cookies, beer, whiskey or pasta) for the duration of the holiday. As described in the Book of Exodus, Passover marks the birth of the "Children of Israel" who became the Jewish nation, as the Jews were liberated from Pharaoh's slavery and allowed to become followers of God instead. Enjoy the Matzah and have a great Pesach!!!

TUSY makes Beth El "Fall To The Ground"
Drew Johnson, scored most of TUSY's points this week, but Ben Saxon, Robbie Miller, Asaf Segal and Jason Davis also got on the board. Saxon played very tough defense and had a ton of important rebounds early in the game. All 9 players on the team played and were productive including the above mentioned, as well as Hannah Baldinger, starter Sara Gotlieb, Elisa Edelstein and Dan Kelman. This truly was a team effort.
Beth El 3 struggled with most aspects of the game, but they did shine in one area. Flopping. One player, #3 on Beth El fell to the ground over 15 times trying to draw fouls...he drew none. TUSY's zone defense forced Beth El to make bad turnovers and TUSY turned those into easy baskets.
TUSY's next game is Next Sunday @ 2 PM versus B'nai Emet (BESY). Come Cheer on the squad. There will be a surprise coach next week!

Jason's Juices

Apple juice has gained in popularity over the last few years. I know I have always enjoyed it. However, a lot more people turned to apple juice when orange juice prices began to go up dramatically. It seems that perhaps some other fruit juice (and that fruits growers) are about to be bumped up in the ranks, at least temporarily.
China, as in so many other areas, has become the worlds supplier of apples. Due to a late frost and bad weather there, and in Poland which is also a big apple producer, the apple crop is about 10% lower for 2007 than the previous year. This means that supply is low while demand is high. British supermarket giant Tesco has already admitted that it's seen purchase prices go up, but hasn't made any decisions on what the retail prices will do.
Personally, I love apple juice. I recently found out that it is also a good source of vitamin C. No wonder so many people turned to it from orange juice (which I also enjoy enthusiastically). Hopefully this will be a fluke year and the prices won't go up too much or for a prolonged period of time. I think, though, that I'm going to stock up while the prices are good.
Erica's Eretz Yisrael Report

Shalom USYers of the TUSY persuasion!
Okay, so I’ve been in the beautiful land of Israel for almost a month now (can you believe it?) and it just gets better and better everyday! We have already done so many amazing things (Kabbalat Shabbat at the Kotel, chillin’ in the Dead Sea, Betar Yerushalayim soccer game, just to name a few) and still have so many adventures ahead of us. Anyway, like I’ve said, we’ve done so much cool stuff that I can’t possibly fit it into this one small corner of the website devoted to me, but just know that I’m having a great time. Israel is the most incredible place I’ve ever been and if you haven’t been you should get your butt on the next flight over (or come on AMHSI, woot woot). I miss all you guys! PEACE, Erica

TUSY 57 BBYO 2 42

TUSY moved to 1-1 in this young Jew-Ball Season. This game was truly a team effort. Drew Johnson and Justin Oskey both played top notch games for TUSY, leading the team on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. John Rikess and Asaf Segal, who rounded out the starters played quality minutes as well.
The best part of Week 2? 9 Players were ready to play for TUSY. All 5 bench players got playing time. If you ask them, they will tell you that they had a great time. Ben Saxon said, "This was great." Sam Schaber and 9th Grader Robbie Miller gave TUSY great energy off the bench. Even Elisa Edelstein and Sara Gotlieb got in on the action. Elisa had a steal and Sara had some rebounds. Coach Mark Divine, who balanced playing time in the first half told his team at half-time (leading 23-22), "While everyone will play again, now we play to win." TUSY took off, scoring the first 10 points of the second half, and didn't look back.
Does This Sounds Fun To You?? E-mail Mark Divine
and he'll give you details on the games.
