WANTED: JEW BALL PLAYERS
Hey everyone as you can see from the latest post, we could use some help at Jew Ball games. Justin can't do everything himself so we would love to have more people show up. If you are interested in playing or have any questions about Jew Ball feel free to contact this year's coach Mark Divine at toayouth@gmail.com. The schedule is posted on the Sabes JCC website and you can find a link to it in the Jew Ball post. Jew Ball is a great opportunity to compete with other Jewish teens from all over the Twin Cities. There are teams from Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox synagogues and even some BBYO teams. The games are a lot of fun and Mark makes sure to get everyone playing time. The league is co-ed so both boys and girls are welcome. I hope to see a lot more of you there next week. There will be an event invitation going out shortly from the TUSY Facebook profile. If you haven't become friends with it yet make sure you do.

PPassover is a Jewish festival commemorating the Exodus from Egypt and the liberation of the Israelites from slavery. It is immediately followed by the Festival of the Unleavened Bread.Passover begins on the 15th day of the month of Nisan, the first month of the Hebrew calendar, in accordance with the Hebrew Bible. The Exodus of the Jews from Egypt took place in the spring and so Passover must be celebrated in the spring. In Israel, Passover is a seven-day holiday, with the first and last days celebrated as a full festival involving abstention from work, special prayer services, and holiday meals. Many Jews observe the positive Torah commandment of eating matzo on the first night of Passover at the Passover Seder, as well as the Torah prohibition against eating or owning Chametz (leavened products such as bread, cake, cookies, beer, whiskey or pasta) for the duration of the holiday. As described in the Book of Exodus, Passover marks the birth of the "Children of Israel" who became the Jewish nation, as the Jews were liberated from Pharaoh's slavery and allowed to become followers of God instead. Okay, so I’ve been in the beautiful land of Israel for almost a month now (can you believe it?) and it just gets better and better everyday! We have already done so many amazing things (Kabbalat Shabbat at the Kotel, chillin’ in the Dead Sea, Betar Yerushalayim soccer game, just to name a few) and still have so many adventures ahead of us. Anyway, like I’ve said, we’ve done so much cool stuff that I can’t possibly fit it into this one small corner of the website devoted to me, but just know that I’m having a great time. Israel is the most incredible place I’ve ever been and if you haven’t been you should get your butt on the next flight over (or come on AMHSI, woot woot). I miss all you guys! PEACE, Erica

Jason's Juices

Apple juice has gained in popularity over the last few years. I know I have always enjoyed it. However, a lot more people turned to apple juice when orange juice prices began to go up dramatically. It seems that perhaps some other fruit juice (and that fruits growers) are about to be bumped up in the ranks, at least temporarily.

China, as in so many other areas, has become the worlds supplier of apples. Due to a late frost and bad weather there, and in Poland which is also a big apple producer, the apple crop is about 10% lower for 2007 than the previous year. This means that supply is low while demand is high. British supermarket giant Tesco has already admitted that it's seen purchase prices go up, but hasn't made any decisions on what the retail prices will do.

Personally, I love apple juice. I recently found out that it is also a good source of vitamin C. No wonder so many people turned to it from orange juice (which I also enjoy enthusiastically). Hopefully this will be a fluke year and the prices won't go up too much or for a prolonged period of time. I think, though, that I'm going to stock up while the prices are good.
